Our building science group is looking for a Sustainability Specialist III- Senior Sustainability Specialist to join our Los Angeles or San Diego office.Working from either our Los Angeles or San Diego offices (or both!), we are looking for regional leadership from design competition through project delivery for projects from various sectors from around the world. From our supportive culture, diverse workforce, and competitive compensation and fun social events, it is everything you will need for an exciting, challenging, and rewarding career.Job ResponsibilitiesAs a Sustainability Specialist III- Senior Sustainability Specialist, you will be a part of the national High-Performance Solution Team and provide regional leadership. The HPS team delivers full service high-performance building support; this includes ideation, qualitative consultancy, quantitative analysis and communication across all aspects of building systems. Energy modeling using IES-VE is our heavy lifting tool, but our differentiator is an approach that sees each building as a unique set of challenges, and we help to identify the best bespoke solution. In support of the firm’s commitment to the MEP 2040 Challenge, you will be integral to driving our electrification and decarbonization efforts by acting as a consultant to your teammates and clients. You will regularly interact with other HPS team members and MEP engineers in the local offices and around the firm on project engagements.Responsibilities will include, at a minimum:Whole building energy modelingEnergy efficiency measure analysisNet Zero Energy/Carbon roadmappingGreen building certification support (LEED, WELL, LBC, RESET, etc.)Renewable energy analysisIncentive and rebate program supportBeneficial electrification consultingLife Cycle Cost AnalysisUnderstanding of local and national energy codes and policiesOffer support and consultation related to sustainability strategies, energy efficiency measures, innovative technologies, voluntary rating standards, codes, and industry trends, etc.Present at internal and external lunch & learn type trainings.Collaborate with owner and architect clients and MEP design engineers to develop energy and water efficiency strategies and system approaches on their projects – relating to high-performance HVAC systems, plumbing systems and electrical/lighting systems.Job RequirementsThe ideal candidate will be capable of providing direct consulting services to clients from early-stage ideation to late-stage energy modeling & certification submissions. The candidate will have experience and the ability to apply relevant industry knowledge with codes, strategies, trends and drivers to project design. This includes sustainability strategies, energy efficiency measures, technologies, voluntary rating standards, codes, industry, and trends; be someone who possesses strong communication and organizational skills; and who has the desire and ability to grow to a senior level Sustainability Specialist role. Additional requirements include:Ability to read, review, and evaluate Architectural and Engineering drawings and visualize three-dimensional models.Familiarity with design tools such as RevitCompetency with simulation and modeling tools, (primarily IESVE and CA Title-24 code compliance tools such as EnergyPro and CBECC. Additional tools may include Windows, COMFEN, Climate Consultant, Sefaira, EnergyPlus, PVWATTS.)Minimum of 5- 8+ years of experience working in a consulting firm working on energy & carbon focused design.Basic understanding of proper system selection and applicable building codesKnowledge of LEED and WELL design principlesLEED accredited and WELL accredited or on track to achieving accreditation.BenefitsAs an employee with Syska Hennessy Group, you will be part of a global firm with an amazing history!
